Holiday giving opportunities

Dec 23, 2014

There are several opportunities to help those in need during the holiday season through various outreach efforts across the University. The following information is being made available for those who would like to assist in these efforts. Also, at the end of the page, see the results being reported from the efforts that have been completed.

Stockton Campus
COAT DRIVE- The Office of Services for Students with Disabilities is collecting new or gently used coats for all ages to help those in need during the winter season. If you would like to donate, please contact Danny Nuss at dnuss@pacific.edu or 209.946.3221.

ADOPT-A-FAMILY- In previous years, campus groups have sponsored an adopt-a-family outreach to assist families in need during the holidays with clothing, gifts and food. Though no campus organization is sponsoring this effort this year, the San Joaquin Women's Center reached out to the Pacific Community Service Committee indicating that they have a  few families in need that have not been adopted through efforts by other organizations. Anyone interested in making an important difference for a family during the holidays may contact them directly at 209.941.2611. Their deadline to receive donations in time to prepare them for distribution is Dec. 19

Thanks to Pacific Technology for stepping up to adopt four families.

PACIFIC FOOD PANTRY — The Pacific Food Pantry's cupboards are bare. The pantry is an on-campus resource for students, staff and faculty who are facing a food scarcity situation. Donations can be sent through campus mail marked "Food Pantry." Non-perishable food stuffs and hygiene items are greatly needed. Visit Pacific.edu/FoodPantry for more information.

GAMES AND TOYS — The Athletic Department is partnering with Stockton Police Youth Activities for their annual Holiday Game Nights. Anyone who donates a new, unwrapped toy will receive free admission to either of the games listed below. Fans can drop off toys in front of the Alex G. Spanos Center starting one hour prior to the game.

  • Dec. 16 - Women's Basketball vs. Utah State @ 7 p.m.
  • Dec. 20 - Men's Basketball vs. Fresno State @ 7p.m.

Toys for totsHOLIDAY FOOD DRIVE — The Arthur A. Dugoni School of Dentistry is holding a Holiday Food Drive from Dec. 1-19 to benefit the San Francisco Food Bank. TOYS FOR TOTS — The Pediatric Dentistry Study Club at the Arthur A. Dugoni School of Dentistry is organizing a Toys for Tots drive from Nov.17 - Dec. 12.  New, unwrapped toys are being collected at lunchtime in the Great Hall and at any time by the 4th floor reception desk.

Outcomes:

McGeorge School of Law donated $600 in November to a local food bank to purchase turkeys and food for Thanksgiving dinners. Their canned food drive from Nov. 3-21 brought in more than 1,000 food items that were donated to the Sacramento Food Bank and Family Services.

The Gladys L. Benerd School of Education completed their drive for gifts and school supplies for Foster Children. The Record newspaper recently wrote about their successful efforts. Read more>>
