University of the Pacific on Thursday will honor one of Pacific's greatest alumni - George R. Moscone '53.

The tribute at Pacific's San Francisco campus at 155 5th St., will close with a panel discussion exploring Moscone's legacy. Panelists are Willie L. Brown Jr, John L. Burton, Belva Davis and Jonathan Moscone. The event begins at 6:30 pm and will be webcast.

The webcast will be streamed at www.go.Pacific.edu/Moscone.

Moscone, who received his bachelor's degree in sociology at Pacific and later received an honorary Doctor of Laws degree in 1976, was a California state senator (1967-1976) and the 37th mayor of San Francisco. While at Pacific, Moscone was a point guard on the basketball team, president of the Rho Lambda Phi chapter, and on the student senate as the rally commissioner. He was inducted posthumously into the Pacific Athletic Hall of Fame.
