Two NEH grants, Chemistry research awards, Hall of Fame recognition and more from Pacific facultyCollege of the Pacific
Teresa Bergman, Communication, presented "Commemoration of Women at the Rosie the Riveter Memorial" at the National Public Historians Conference in Monterey, Calif.
Anthony Dutoi and Balint Sztaray, Chemistry, were each awarded 2014 Department of Energy Visiting Faculty Program Awards to conduct research at national research laboratories. The VFP seeks to increase the research competitiveness of faculty members and their students at institutions historically underrepresented in the research community in order to expand the workforce vital to DOE mission areas. As part of the program, selected university/college faculty members collaborate with DOE laboratory research staff on a research project of mutual interest. ![]() Anthony Dutoi's award will fund 10 weeks of research with Stephen Leone at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory. The national lab group uses extremely short pulses of x-rays to follow the motions of molecules after they have been suddenly stripped of an electron. Dutoi will be developing theoretical approaches to help interpret the data and understand the origins of the signals being observed. Balint Sztaray's award will fund 10 weeks of research at Sandia National Laboratories Combustion Research Facility (CRF) for Sztaray and one of his graduate students, Kyle Covert (PCSP, 2018). They will be working on combining Sztaray's method of photoelectron-photoion coincidence spectroscopy with the multiplexed mass spectrometry experiment of David Osborn (Sandia CRF) and build a prototype new instrument for the Swiss Light Source synchrotron. Sztaray was on sabbatical at Sandia during spring 2013 and has been working closely with the CRF ever since. |
Anthony Dutoi, chemistry, gave the talk "Time-resolved Pump-Probe Spectroscopy to Follow Valence Electronic Motion" at the 2013 American Chemical Society Meeting in Indianapolis, Ind. His coauthored article, "Time-resolved Pump-Probe Spectroscopy to Follow Valence Electronic Motion in Molecules: Theory," was published in Physics Review A. His coauthored article, "Attenuated Second-order Møller-Plesset Perturbation Theory: Performance within the aug-cc-pVTZ Basis," was published in PCCP, Physical Chemistry Chemical Physics. His invited perspective, Visualising Many-body Electron Dynamics using One-body Densities and Orbitals," was published in Molecular Physics, accompanied by an author profile. One of his figures, "Charge migration in molecules," was reproduced in the article "What will it take to observe processes in 'real time'?" published in Nature Photonics.
